The Black Swan
Day 332: Sunday, February 5, 2012I got a call from Mari saying that an acquaintance of ours, who works for a really big publishing company in Japan, had proposed T.B. to his boss and got the approval for it to be made into a book. When I heard the news, I didn’t quite believe that it could get passed so easily (or at least that they didn’t know what they were getting into and would back out when they did) because the logistics of it being made into a book, especially in Japanese, seem quite difficult, so I kept my expectations low.
After I told Mari to arrange a meeting, I walked around wondering that if it were really true, would I still want to hire the girl to do it since the last time we had met to work on the TB zine, which has been dragging on for six months now, the design- instead of getting better- was getting much worse. When I confronted her about it, she confessed that she could no longer see what was good about the project anymore. Moreover, her face, when we first greeted each other on the street, was like she could no longer stand me either.
